iPhone Features
Monday, October 15th, 2007 by iPod GeekApple has a way of capturing people’s minds. For example, before iPhone found its way into the market, the company fed millions of users around the world with the many features the phone can do.
This includes:
- typing using a virtual keyboard,
- selecting voice messages,
- zooming in and out of photos, and
- surfing the Internet with the Safari web browser.
Despite the many features iPhone have, others are still digging deeper, hoping to discover a lot more interesting stuff—and they are successful. A system preference file has actually unveiled the many possibilities of using more widgets and applications for the iPhone. It’s just that one need to wait for another firmware upgrade before they can be unlocked.
This system preference file is known as the Default ApplicationState .plist. This contained not only a number of commonly used applications such as MobileiPod, Phonebook, and Weather, but also other interesting features such as Radio, Unit Converter, and Translation. These three are not currently offered by the iPhones sold today.
Everyone can simply deduce that the Translation widget may be for translating various texts in different languages and that the Unit Converter is simply a conversion application. However, what one should be excited about is the Radio. It has been a long time since iPod incorporated this feature into their unit. This function was recently introduced only with the release of the iPod’s remote accessory known as iPod Radio. Thus, the chances for Apple to integrate Radio to the iPhone may be quite slim.
All hope’s not gone, however, if you will rely on the system preference file. We can just simply look forward to the time when Apple will introduce mobile radio streaming on iPhones very soon. Another source of hope could be the mere fact that this is included in the firmware list. It may indicate that these programs or widgets will be unlocked following an update in the firmware.
In the meantime, iPhone is just relatively new. It hasn’t been like a month since people got hold of it and enjoyed and explored its capabilities. Nevertheless, one should not deny the fact that if Apple wants to maintain that edge over all other mobile carriers, it must constantly update its firmware and develop more built-in tools.

iPhone- The Must-Have Tech Gadget Of The Year
Friday, October 12th, 2007 by iPod GeekBefore its launch on June 19 of this year, millions of Apple fans were already awaiting impatiently for the iPhone release. Much publicity was given to this product that was anticipated to revolutionize the world of cell phones.
Although Apple initially only aim to sell around ten million units on its first year of release, it was said to have already sold close to three hundred thousand units within its first thirty hours in the market.
Is iPhone’s Publicity Well-Deserved?
If you ask me what makes the iPhone deserve such publicity, I would be very surprised. You do not have to be a big Apple fan or a gadget freak to appreciate this classy innovation. Whether you are an Apple fanatic, a techno geek, a multimedia player fan, a camera phone enthusiast, or whatever else you may be, the iPhone may be the product for you. Being an all-in-one gadget built with the latest and most innovative technology has made this phone the must-have of the year.
Apart from its sleek design that surpasses even the iPod, the iPhone’s multi-touch screen is its most admired element. Instead of sporting mechanical buttons just as any handheld mobile, it features a 3.5-inch touch screen layered with optical-quality glass. Because of this, it should be used with the touch of a finger and therefore, there is no need for a stylus. This screen also allows the use of several fingers for easier use of the gadget. All other mechanical buttons that has specific functions in other handheld are replaced with virtual buttons that can be easily manipulated when the screen is touched. This allows its user to scroll through menus, dial phones, compose SMS or email messages just by tapping on the displays.
If that is not enough to prove that its publicity is well-deserved, the iPhone uses Apple’s latest operating system called Mac OS X. Through this operating system, it enables its user to access the internet with the Safari web browser. Having this operating system enabled with this web browser, it allows its users to use the internet as one would with any other Apple desktop or laptop. This makes the iPhone very powerful especially as it is compared with the other smart phones in the market. No other smart phone available today has this functionality as all others provide limited operating systems and restricted web browsers. Because of this limited capacity, no other handheld can give its user the same web browsing experience as the iPhone does.
As more and more reviews are published everyday, the iPhone has actually earned much of its attention. The hype prior to its release is at a steady state now ,there is no doubt that people will continue to place orders throughout the rest of the year.

Which One To Get- iPhone or Helio Ocean
Friday, October 5th, 2007 by iPod GeekSteve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, makes it clear that the iPhone will be a revolutionary device and will create history. But is it? Even if its release is basically new, this smart phone already met a lot of competition, namely, the Helio Ocean.
The Helio Ocean is great at areas where the iPhone is at its weakest. For example, when it comes to 3G network, you can connect through it with lightning speed. It has a unique dual slider system where numeric keypads are revealed when you place the phone vertically and a QWERTY keyboard when positioned horizontally. The minor glitch, however, there is that you can’t open both simultaneously as they belong into separate layers.
Ocean also finds its edge in terms of its e-mail messaging services. You can integrate almost all known mail services in the web such as MSN Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL Mail in one messaging dashboard. Latest buzz is that Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync program may just find its way to Ocean, synchronizing contacts, calendar entries, and corporate e-mail. It also makes instant messaging a lot easier through its Presence Detection feature. You can type the name of your contact in the home screen. Helio’s Smart Dialer will then reveal complete contact information of the person as well as icons that indicate if your friend is actually online.
If all these highly efficient features are already provided by Helio, what’s the iPhone for? For one, it isn’t simply an ordinary phone. It can also function as an iPod. It has a very wide screen complete with touch controls which allow you to enjoy any form of media to your heart’s content. This includes videos, TV shows, music, movies, and audio books. Through its Safari web browser, you can view any web page exactly as they are. You can zoom them by merely tapping with your finger its multitouch display.
The iPhone is for multitaskers. It tries to imitate the sophistication and power of any advanced operating system like widgets, calendar, text messaging, and Notes, among others. This means you can download an e-mail while you surf the Web.
The phone is equipped with its own built-in sensors. A simple rotation of the device will automatically convert its setting from landscape to portrait. This also changes the way images and texts are displayed on screen, so it will use the entire web page width.
So which one is better? Honestly, only time can really tell.
iPhone under threats of Hackers
Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 by iPod GeekThis news shouldn’t be surprising. For a long time, the latest in technology is often targeted by hackers. The iPhone is no exception. This is not helped by the fact that more than 3,000 security professionals and hackers has converged recently for the annual Black Hat Conference. And their goal? To detect one majority security imperfection in the iPhone.
Security Problems of iPhone
So how does the so-called iPhone hack works?
For one, hackers can trick the victims to visit a malicious website through their iPhone. From there, they can retrieve all important information about the phone users. Unscrupulous hackers can then utilize these data for illegitimate transactions. The worst part is, you wouldn’t know about it until it’s already too late.
However, Apple doesn’t want to simply take matters sitting down. They are currently developing a patch for iPhone. Should this really come to fruition, this will be considered the first software upgrade for the phone. Nevertheless, none of their representatives can ever explain if such patch will come just before the release of such findings.
You may ask, however, why should Apple handle security patches when other mobile phone manufacturers are giving this type of control to mobile carriers? This is because majority of the carriers are pretty slow in developing security patch devices, no matter even if they already know that there are bugs existing.
Exclusive iPhone patching by Apple provides two types of benefit: one, they can easily create a software that will correct the flaw, and second, who else does know the iPhone better than its manufacturers, right?
Should It Cause a Public Stir?
Should this latest technological glitch cause bother to iPhone users? Yes, it should, as it only means that what you may have is a weak system that can be penetrated by simply anyone, especially those who are highly knowledgeable in the process of hacking.
But it doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything to at least alleviate the potential problem:
Study your iPhone very carefully. A lot of mobile users seldom care in reading their instruction manuals. These are created because they contain instructions when problems arise. How to beat the hack may not be there, but if you have adequate knowledge of your iPhone, you can easily detect if something is amiss.
Make yourself constantly updated. Now that there are already initial findings available, you just need to brush up on the latest updates available about the security patch. Visit the iPhone website as often as possible. You can also contact their customer or technical support, or drop by the nearest Apple store within your area.
By keeping yourself updated, your iPhone will be less likely to fall prey to malicious hackers.
